High Volume / Respirable Dust Samplers
Polltech provides a range of models with two sampling inlets (Gable Roof or SSI), different types of Blowers and various options of flow measurement & control module with and without constant flow controller. All samplers, for measurement of SPM or TSP are designated as model PEM-HVS - 1 to 8 while samplers for measurements of RSPM (PM-10) are designated PEM-RDS - 1 to 8. The RDS models come with SSI as standard sampling inlet & Gable Roof as optional. By replacing SSI with Gable Roof, the RDS models can be converted to equivalent HVS models for measurement of SPM.
All HVAS for SPM use Gable Roof as per US EPA / CPCB specifications & therefore collect particles less than 100õ on filter paper, while all HVAS for RSPM use Size Selective Inlet for collections of Respirable particles less than 10õ on filter paper. The larger particles are removed in the SSI. Polltechs all models of HVAS for RSPM are therefore similar to SPM models. The only difference therefore is use of SSI in lieu of Gable Roof, all other specifications remaining same. Polltech all RSPM samplers can also be used for measurement of SPM if SSI is replaced with a Gable Roof. The Gable Roof can be ordered optionally & changeover takes only few minutes. All models for SPM can be also be modified at a later stage by installing the SSI. The SSI Kit is also available optionally & comes with complete set of instructions & required accessories.

PrincipLE of Operation Suspended particles in the air are sampled at constant sampling rate of 1.13 m3/min through the circumferential entry of the size selective inlet. The circular design ensures wind direction insensitivity and the inlet design as well as the internal configuration makes the collection efficiency independent of low wind speeds. The particles are then accelerated through multiple circular impactor nozzles. By virtue of their larger momentum, particles greater than 10õ impact on to the greased collection plate. The particles smaller than the 10õ are carried vertically upward by the air flow and down the multiple vent tubes to the 8 x 10 inch hi-vol filter, where they are collected. The SSI is US EPA approved reference method & meets European, Australian & Japanese standards. BLOWERThe two types of suction blowers are high-speed carbon brush type AC/DC blower, and Brushless Blower with AC Motor. The brush types are also available in two models i.e. KPT 350 & KPT 600. The low flow capacity 350-watt blower is used only in model PEM-HVS-2 or PEM-RDS-2 while high flow capacity model KPT-600 is used in Model PEM-HVS (RDS)-5 & 7. The AC motor driven Brushless Blowers are also available in two variants. The higher capacity model uses belt driven blower operating at high speed, The lower capacity model uses a Low speed (2850 RPM) regenerative blower directly coupled to AC motor and therefore has very low noise (NL) . These blower options are available for models PEM-HVS (RDS) -1,4,6 & 8. Those models which uses NL blower are suffixed with NL i.e. PEM-HVS (RDS) ââ¬â 1,4,6,8 (NL). Flow Measurement System The air flow is not directly measured, instead it is inferred from the differential pressure measured across the orifice plate installed at the blower exhaust. Two types of devices for measurement of the differential pressure and the corresponding flow computation methodology are used. U-tube manometer along with a calibration graph of DP (cm WC) Vs. Flow is used for low cost models ECM1 & ECM2. The advanced models use Solid State pressure sensor with an internal look-up table to display digitally the flow & volume (ECM 4 onwards). Electronic Control Module The electronic control module is the brain of a sampler. It controls the operation of the sampler. Different models provide different mixes from among a host of functions including timing, time totalizing, flow measurement, temperature and pressure correction, blower speed control, volume computations and user interface etc. All control modules are microprocessor based with non-volatile memory so as to restore the sampling operation in case of power interruptions and also store the Set & Run time along with other parameters.
