Application
Model PSI-PSC 1 Programmable Counting System is an advanced, versatile, microprocessor based instrument, which finds applications in the measurement of radioactivity of given samples and in study of decay characteristics. It is versatile for measuring Radon, Alpha, Beta or Gamma radioactivity with suitable detector probes.
Model PSI-PSC 1 is fully programmable. It provides for 9 groups of programs. Each group can have 16 programs. Each program can consist of 0-999 counting cycles. The counting time for each counting cycle is settable from 1 to 999 minutes or seconds. All the user-settable programs can be stored in an internal non-volatile RAM. The observed counts for each counting cycle for each program can be stored in memory and can be retrieved or printed on demand.
Construction
Model PSI-PSC 1 consists of a microprocessor based electronic module and a precision high voltage supply module. The electronic module comprises all the subassemblies and components for adapting the various probes and carrying out signal conditioning and counting, timing, storage, display and printing functions. The display is a 32-character LCD module while the built-in printer is 24 column Alphanumeric dot matrix printer. The electronic module is enclosed in an elegant and light weight ABS carrying case.
RADON Counting System
Model PSI-RCS 1
Application
Model PSI-RSC 1 is used for measuring the Radon activity in the air. Radon is a radioactive gas, which is emitted in nature by the decay of Uranium in the earth's crust. Radon and its daughter products being largely alpha emitters, can pose a serious health hazard if present in large quantities.
Construction
Model PSI-RSC 1 comprises the above-mentioned Model PSI-RCS 1 Programmable Counting System and a Radon detector. The detector consists of a evacuated Lucas cell which is fitted with a ZnS(Ag) scintillator and is coupled to a photo-multiplier tube. The scintillations given out by the impinging of Alpha particles on ZnS(Ag) are detected by the photo-multiplier which is coupled to the Lucas Cell. This gives a measure of Radon activity in the air.
